Capital of Vaucluse, Avignon, known as the city of the Popes is a city with a rich cultural heritage that smells good Provence. Established at the confluence of the Durance and the Rhone, this town of 93,000 inhabitants has the charm of an ancient fortified city that still retains its ramparts and a historic center with an architecture partially spared by modernism. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Avignon is also known for its Performing Arts Festival which is traditionally held in July.

For nearly 10 years, Drone-Pictures has been putting all its know-how at your service to realize aerial shots by drone in Avignon, in the Vaucluse region that we often film from our rear base in Marseille.

From the audiovisual production to the realization of corporate films, or from the monitoring of construction sites to the live broadcasting of events, our services are adapted to the needs of our local or international customers.

Our experience in Avignon & Vaucluse

Our experience in drone shooting in Avignon and surroundings

Since 2011, we have often been given the opportunity to fly over the most beautiful sites of Avignon and Vaucluse, either for the CRT Paca, in 2014 or for the American television channel NBC in 2018, for a reality show shot between Avignon, Gordes, the Château de Tourreau in Sarrians, and Châteauneuf du Pape.

We would be too modest to hide the fact that we were the first to have ever filmed the Palace of the Popes of Avignon from the inside with a drone (photo below and video sequence in the editing). It is the double privilege to have been mandated by the Regional Tourism Committee, and to have proposed the service by drone in Avignon and Vaucluse from 2011.

Our memorable drone experiences in Vaucluse department

One of our main experiences in the Vaucluse department was the moving shooting for the BBC at Mont-Ventoux, where we had to use drones to follow the feat of the triple ascent by the English cyclist David Smith, who was recovering, for Martin Hollingworth’s documentary “Dead Man Cycling“, to be broadcast in 2015 on BBC2. From 2014 to 2016, we also took part in the training of several hundred drone pilots in Pertuis, with the Drones-Lab school. In 2020, we flew our Inspire 2 over lavender fields in Sault, for National Geographic (series Europe From Above Saison 2) et The Explorers, for whom we provided aerial videos by drone throughout the Southern Region, and in particular the fields of fine lavender in Provence, which grows on the Valensole plateau in Vaucluse.

In a completely different vein, we followed the worksite at the BA115 military air base, based in Orange, from December 2022 to summer 2024, for Travaux du Midi.

Another remarkable drone shooting, Isle-sur-la-Sorgue in July 2018 for Dimanche en France, on France 3 where we flew over the city and its mansions and waterways.

But we have also filmed very often Avignon with our drones, for the HOsiHO aerial image bank. Here is one of the drone views of the Cathedral of the Doms and the Popes’ Palace from the Rhone, just at the foot of the Saint Bénezet bridge that we have also filmed so many times. Logical, since the Avignon bridge is an icon known to all and especially the theater of the famous song.

This bridge is the iconic monument of this medium-sized town in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region. Close to the city of the Popes, we also had the chance to film some beautiful monuments of Villeneuve-lès-Avignon, such as the Saint-André fort or the Philippe-le-Bel tower.

As everywhere else in France, shooting from a UAV in Avignon and the south of France requires compliance with very strict regulations, which first requires certified dronists registered with the French civil aviation authority (DGAC), as well as the use of certified, insured and well-maintained UAVs. Not forgetting the administrative permits required to make aerial shootings using UAVs with complete peace of mind.

For all of these questions, creative, technical and administrative, the Drone-Pictures team is the perfect answer, and will provide you with informed and reliable advice on what can be done according to the specific criteria of your UAV mission. Finally, our perfect knowledge of the terrain allows us to advise you on the shooting locations best suited to your objectives, the best lights and the right angles.
