The Orange Velodrome Stadium in Marseille filmed in VR360 by Drone Pictures

For a Premiere, it was a pure delight!

Tuesday, February 7th, 2023, the day before the OM (Marseille’s Club) / PSG (Paris Club) football match for the French Cup, we had the great privilege to fly our drones at the Orange Velodrome Stadium in Marseille – on the pitch and outside, in order to capture aerial images for an immersive VR360 video, for Orange.

The next day, Olympique de Marseille football club won the match against PSG. The story doesn’t say if there is any relation with our drone shootings, but we are very proud of it, because it hadn’t happened for a good ten years that OM beats the PSG club !

The picture above is taken from the 6K VR 360 video: Little Planet output. It is the end shot of the film that the director wanted with the stadium illuminated (800 Lux power), this at nightfall.
We made a candlelight ascent to an altitude of 100 metres, which required a proper protocol with the Marseille-Provence airport.
The Velodrome stadium was lit up especially for this flight, which only lasted about ten minutes.

A bit of technique: the drone was equipped with our new small Insta360 One R 1 Inch camera with VR360 Module attached to the Inspire 2 by a 75cm mini boom in order to minimize the presence of the drone in the 360° field of view. Usually, we attach it under the Mavic 2 pro drone but on this day, with the wind gusting to 50/60 km/h, it would not have been prudent to put this small drone in the air loaded with the 360 camera as an appendage. Risk of strong oscillations, therefore unstable images, or even of pure and simple overturning of the unit. At least with the Inspire 2, image stability and flight safety were guaranteed.
