Sublime Provence, discover the South of France from above!

Here you’ll find all the Opus of Sublime Provence, our new series featuring a selection of the finest aerial images captured since 2015.

Provence and the Côte d’Azur are absolutely sublime!

It’s been on our minds for ages: how can we show, in just a few minutes, the best of the best of our most beautiful drone images gleaned over more than 10 years from all over Provence, whether as a service or in the production of stockshots for our aerial image bank HOsiHO, World Seen From Above?

Having already produced the four episodes of Sublime Marseille, the idea of a new series entitled Sublime Provence quickly took hold. But the task was immense, and time was of the essence!

In fact, we had to go back into all the files of our drone video rushes, amassed over more than a decade!
A good twenty Teras, stored on several hard disks.

In short, thousands of clips to view, to keep only the cream, only the most emblematic and complementary, with the aim of covering every aspect of this absolutely magnificent region, so rich in cultural, geographical and urban diversity!

Provence – or should we say Les Provences? – it’s as much about the coast, the marshes, the inland towns and villages (known as Moyen Provence) as it is about mountains and canyons, with the Alps, the high plateaus and the Verdon gorges, among others!

Cassis Bay and vineyards from the Pas de Julien – by Drone-Pictures

When you think about it, this is a huge territory, not in terms of surface area, but in terms of wealth!

And as if that weren’t enough, we’ve extended the geographical scope of the series to include the Côte d’Azur and its totally exceptional Alpes-Maritimes, as well as a slice of the Gard with Aigues-Mortes and its salt marshes. A logical choice, given that the nearby Camargue is part of Provence!

In short, don’t look to our series for a rigorous delimitation of Provence, but enjoy, as we do, the beauty of this piece of France that is the envy of the whole world.

Not just for its legendary fine weather, its blue skies and remarkable sunsets, but for the charm of the whole, its variety, its topography, its Mediterranean, its peaks and summits, its valleys, gorges, lakes and marshes! Ah, we were about to forget its monuments, its towns and hilltop villages, its winding roads, often with breathtaking views around the bend!

Are we blinded by the unspeakable charms of a land whose sky has become our playground? Of course, YES!

This series is produced on our own initiative, largely with videos from our own drone stock footage, and in addition, with images taken during drone services for our customers. Most of the time we shoot in 4K, sometimes in 5 or 6K, as the latest-generation drones with which we’re equipped increasingly allow access to these very high resolution images.

A tough selection for a three-part series!

The choice of images for this series on Provence and the Côte d’Azur from the air, as seen by drone, was titanic.

No fewer than 10,000 shots were meticulously reviewed.
A task impossible to accomplish in just a few days, and which therefore took over three months. This was the first sorting phase, with images that were sometimes redundant but always useful, such as several shots of the same location filmed from different angles and/or movements, but which could prove relevant when it came to editing, in terms of rhythm and connections between shots.
Then came the moment to select the sites, the most beautiful shots and to make a first editing bear, just to visualize a little better this fabulous harvest of aerial images.
And then it was a shock: too much material. A “catch-all” montage, with no head or tail, alternating a succession of beautiful images with no backbone.
That’s where our director comes in.
Sami Sarkis viewed and revised this 10-minute bear.
A first attempt at restructuring was tested: thematic chaptering of the montage: coastline, towns, villages, mountains, gorges and lakes, marshes etc… it’s better, but it’s too long, too cluttered, you get lost in it and, in the end, you lose interest. We let it rest and go back to cogitating.

Genesis of the 1st Opus of Sublime Provence!

A few days later, we’re back at it again.

This time to test a first Opus centered on the Mediterranean coast, with images showing the entire seafront of extended Provence: from the Camargue to Menton, all in less than 4 minutes!

And here we all agree: it works, the journey makes sense, and the film takes us step by step, from west to east, from coves to calanques, from beach to marsh, from small ports to islands, from towns to massifs, from Camargue to Menton. The journey is fluid and varied, with beautiful images that follow one another perfectly, supported by sober music that matches the aesthetic choice of the whole: a poetic invitation to contemplate and fly over this multiple but unique Provence. It’s a jewel that we hope to sublimate in the three opuses we’ll be releasing as inspiration strikes.

The upcoming Sublime Provence episodes!

There will be at least two more opuses in this beautiful aerial series on Provence, but we can’t give a date yet, just a note of intent:

  • Inland Provence: towns and villages, lakes, vineyards and hills
  • Haute-Provence mountains, high plateaus, gorges and lakes

The idea is to cover and show, without being exhaustive, all the richness of our fabulous region.
To be continued, for sure!

Avignon city, seen by drone

February 2015

Ten years ago, we were inspired to create a series of images of Provence from the air, starting with one of Provence’s most beautiful cities, Avignon.

Images taken with Fanny Production for the CRT-Paca, between April and June 2014.

The Provence of lavender

August 2016

Sequence shot in 4K in early August 2016, by drone: tractors in the fields harvesting lavender at 1100m altitude, on the high plateaus at Lagarde d’Apt in the Vaucluse département.

Circuit Paul Ricard, Le Castellet

April 2017

If there’s one mythical motor racing circuit whose image is totally intertwined with La Provence, it’s Le Castellet!

A teaser on and around this circuit, which we surveyed by drone for the second time for GT Drive. Since then, we’ve been back many times, as fast car filming is one of our favorite drone services!

Bandol vineyards

September 2018

In this film for Domaine de la Bégude, we give a glimpse of sumptuous fields of Var vines, wedged between the Mediterranean Sea and the Sainte-Baume mountains!

Sublime Marseille (Opus 4)

Special Sunset – Fourth Opus of Sublime Marseille – September 2024

An episode focused solely on the magical moment of dusk.

A time of golden hours, warm lights, latest rays of daylight, long, well-spread shadows, the incandescence of landscapes and monuments, the beginning of the night, between Dogs and Wolves.  In short, Marseille sublimated by the Sunset, these never identical, always surprising sun settings, filmed by our drones between April 2020 and May 2024!

Find out more about Opus 4 and visit the gallery of the locations flown over by drone.

Sublime Marseille (Opus 2)

Here is the second part of our aerial production in Marseille seen by our drones, shot in 4K between February 2016 and April 2017 and put online in May 2017!

This time it is a question of discovering from above, from sunrise to sunset, part of the sumptuous maritime facade of Marseille, on the Mediterranean sea side: from the port of the Goudes, to the Estaque, via the islands of Friuli, the Corniche Kennedy, the Catalans, the Palais du Pharo, the Prado and its beaches as well as the GPMM, in other words the autonomous port of the city and its offshore dike!

Sublime Marseille (Opus 1)

First Opus of Sublime Marseille – February 2016.

At the release of this first episode of Sublime Marseille, the clip totaled more than 100,000 views on all our social networks! Suffice to say that it boosted us well for the rest of the year!

This first opus is a compilation of our production of 4K aerial images made since the end of 2015 on the monuments and essential sites of the Phocaean city. A project of our own initiative and which will lead to the exhaustive shooting of all neighborhoods, and in all seasons. This shooting will take place throughout 2016. These unique images of illustration of the new trendy tourist destination that Marseille has become, are produced for the HOsiHO collection, the World seen from above, a platform from which it is possible to acquire these sequences for commercial or editorial use.

Silence, Marseille Under Lockdown!

Covid hits the entire planet in 2020. Rather than undergoing lockdown, we decide to make images of our city. Thus, this moving and touching film was born. We dedicate it, again and again, to people who, every day, are on the front line, taking risks to treat us and run this city, which even in slow motion, remains no less beautiful in many aspects. Drone-Pictures has surveyed Marseille, from the city center to the Prado beaches, since the beginning of the lockdown, striking day after day, on the ground and in the air, empty squares, fluid highways, closed shopping centers, streets and avenues usually crowded, now almost deserted. Time is as if suspended. These images are chilling, like the way out of a bad movie. But, and this is all the paradox, they are beautiful, striking, and sublimated by an insolent spring light. As if to taunt the confined Humans that we were then. An invisible virus has turned the World upside down. Like others, we wanted to keep a visual record of his passage over our city. For those who can’t see it this way. For the record, because these moments are undeniably historical. See all the images related to Covid19 on HOsiHO. -> Diary in pictures of the lockdown in Marseille
